An hour long documentary feature about Barack Obama’s long lost cousin, Henry Healy, and his efforts to bring the American president to the village of Moneygall.

Filmed with great empathy and full-access over the course of nearly four years by Ed Godsell, this is the story of how the most famous man of the 21st century came to the village that time forgot.

RTÉ broadcast this programme in 2011.

On the Block - Road Trip (RTÉ)

Having each made a film about themselves, it was decided to bring the film clubs of Buckingham Street and Tory Island together to see what would happen.

So the inner city girls took a bus, an airplane, a minibus and a boat to spend a weekend with the girls of the island.

RTÉ broadcast this programme on Christmas day, 2010.

On the Block – The Series (RTÉ/BCI)

Arising from the success of the original On the Block, the BCI and RTÉ commissioned Macalla to produce On the Block – The Series, a year-long film project where kids from Adamstown, Buckingham Street, Drommohane and Tory Island made documentaries about their lives.

This series was broadcast by RTÉ in 2009.

On the Block - Tory Island won the IFTA award for Children's/Youth Programme in 2010.

Gradam Ceoil (TG4)

Since its inauguration in 1998 Gradam Ceoil TG4 is acknowledged as the premier awards scheme for the traditional musicians of Ireland.

Macalla was excited to be commissioned to produce the televising of the awards ceremony in 2008. After selecting the INEC in Killarney as the most suitable venue for the awards, we assembled the best team in direction, design, sound and lighting to produce the 90' tv show.

Macalla was honoured that the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese accepted our invitation to launch Gradam Ceoil 2008 and to present the lifetime achievement award.

On the Block (RTÉ)

Through a community arts initiative founded by The Ark Children's Cultural Centre in Dublin, kids from Fatima Mansions were taught basic camera and sound skills by Katie Lincoln. This film club met every Saturday morning.

Macalla was commissioned by RTÉ to produce a television programme from this raw material. That programme followed some of the children of Fatima Mansions in Dublin over the course of about 18 months.
